Thalia in 2012 (1) – Performances

It’s that time of the year again!! 🙂 I have to keep the tradition going and start my series of posts dedicated to Thalia’s activities throughout the year, so here’s the first post: Performances. Enjoy! 😉

2012 was definitely a good year when it comes to Thalia’s performances (especially in comparison with last year) as we’ve got to see her perform on various occasions, mostly towards the end of the year.

At the beginning of the year, in February, Thalia joined Dora the Explorer 😀 for a special song, called “Canta, canta, canta” / “Sing, sing sing”, a song that certainly delighted the little ones (and everyone who hasn’t abandoned their inner child) 🙂

That same month, she traveled to Mexico for another special moment, “America Celebra a Chespirito“, where she sang an original song composed especially for the event, titled “Gracias Chespirito”, and brought everyone to tears with her touching performance, when it was aired in March.

Thalia then took a slightly long break from the stage, as she dedicated the rest of the time to the finalization of her 11th studio album, Habitame Siempre.

September was certainly the highlight, since 3 years after the epic Primera Fila recording, fans were given the great opportunity to watch her perform again in a concert.

But it was only in October when the rest of us could watch her perform again, this time together with Tony Bennett, whom she joined for his new album, Viva Duets. The Today Show performance was absolutely lovely, Thalia proving once again the amazing artist she is.

It was at the end of the same month when we got to watch the first televised performance of Manias, Thalia’s first new single. Although it wasn’t a live performance, it’s still nice to watch 🙂

November was the month we finally got the chance to catch a glimpse at what the concert was like (although some of us didn’t enjoy it as much as we thought we would – yeah, I still can’t get got over it :D)

(Tomame o dejame & La apuesta are definitely worth watching, as they were among the few lucky ones that didn’t get edited :D)

By the end of the month, Thalia had joined Tony Bennett once again for a live performance, this time during Katie Couric’s show:

Finally, December brought one of Thalia’s most memorable performances ever, the incredible Manias interpretation during La Voz Mexico 2, with that wrapping with a huge, red bow the box of 2012 performances.

Stay tuned for the next post! Oh, and if you’ve missed the 2010 and 2011 posts, you can find them under the “Year-End Reviews” category. (thanks Mariel for the name idea :P)

Live: Tony Bennett feat. Thalia – The way you look tonight

Tony Bennett is currently promoting his latest album – Viva Duets, and invited Thalia to perform live with him their duet, The way you look tonight, on an American morning show – the Today Show.

In case you missed it, you can watch here their performance:

A few thoughts on that? I was glad that Thalia got to sing one more time with him, and not just for the album, it must be great to have the opportunity to join him and perform with him not only in a studio, but also on a live show. I liked their chat in the beginning and especially in the end, talking about Tony’s Spanish hehe As for the performance, I think Thalia did an even better job live, she really gave that song her best and the result was beautiful, plus her stage presence was great!

PS: One thing I particularly liked was the “Y esa brisa, brisa de mar, llena mi, mi corazon” part, followed by the “uuuuh” I did not see that coming hahaha I even tweeted to her that I almost thought she was going for the “au!” from Marimar. 😀 Anyway, that moment was so adorable that I even had to capture it in a pic hihi:

New Song: Tony Bennett feat. Thalia – The way you look tonight

As you may all know by now, Tony Bennett’s latest album, “Viva Duets”, set to be released this October 23, features duets with top Latin recording artists, Thalia being one of them.

“The way you look tonight” was first released in 1936 and has been covered by many artists since, Tony Bennett’s version becoming part of the soundtrack of the movie “My Best Friend’s Wedding”. He’s also done a duet with Faith Hill and for this new album it was Thalia’s turn to leave her special touch on the song.

While on Tony Bennett’s media networks some of the music videos of the songs included on the album have already been released, Univision.com was the first to premiere the duet with Thalia on one of their radio stations, so click here to listen to it!

According to People en español, Thalia was given a list of options and she chose “The way you look tonight”: “I’ve loved this song ever since Julia Roberts’ movie was released (“My Best Friend’s Wedding”)”, she said.

Obviously, the duet is absolutely wonderful and Thalia’s choice couldn’t have been better, it’s a sweet and calming song, with romantic lyrics, which for some reason makes me think of winter, this song being the perfect way of relaxing during a cold, snowy evening.

That being said, I’m looking forward to also watching the video (there has to be one!) and I’m also curious about the “Guitar Only” version of the duet, featured on the special US Target album.

Thalia at Tony Bennett’s 85th Birthday Gala

September 18, 2011

A star-studded birthday gala took place for music legend Tony Bennett to celebrate his 85th birthday.
Bennett, whose birthday was August 3rd, celebrated with a debut performance at the Metropolitan Opera followed by a gala benefit for the non-profit organization he founded with his wife Susan Benedetto named “Exploring the Arts”. The organization was established to support arts education in New York City public high schools. Bennett, a native of Astoria, Queens, attended The High School of Industrial Arts (now called the H.S. of Art and Design).
